About

School statistics are dismal and the loss of human potential and dignity is heart breaking.

However, across the country and around the world, there are imaginal cells of success, turning caterpillars into butterflies, allowing students to soar.

This blog is dedicated to them and all the visionary teachers, administrators, students, parents, non-profits, business people, policymakers and concerned citizens who are joining in this effort to create a better world for our children and our future.

Joyce Wycoff

I began my career in accounting and, somewhere along the way, it dawned on me that if I threw away the hard assets of the company that employed me ... its furniture, inventory or computer systems, I would be fired.  However, if I called ten people into a meeting and wasted their time and energy ... or if I micro-managed my employees and ignored their ideas ... or if I set people to work on a task that didn't challenge them ... nothing much would happen.

Wasting human potential didn't figure into the debits and credits.  As I began to study human potential in action in business organizations, I realized that there is a culture where people thrive and do the most amazing things.  In 1993, I co-founded the InnovationNetwork in order to help organizations understand how to create a culture that supported innovation and creativity.  This effort was mildly successful until the crash of 2008 took the wind out of the business sails and everyone pulled back to simply try to weather the storm.

During that time, I had the opportunity to be part of the development of a new high school (Minarets High School) in the Sierra foothills.  The school turned into a miracle of possibility and re-ignited a passion I had for helping our education system be all that it could be.  As Sal Khan says in his great book, The One World School House: Education Reimagined:
And in this revolution, the pace of change is so swift that deep creativity and analytical thinking are no longer optional; they are not luxuries but survival skills. We can no longer afford for only some part of the world's population to be deeply educated. (emphasis added)
This blog is part of that process of learning and supporting all that is new and wonderful in our public and private education system.  I would love to hear from you in the comments section or email me at jwycoff@reimagineschool.com.
